Belgrade is a city like no other. Concrete high-rises of the Communist era contrast with neo-classical buildings, whilst the construction of wholly modern skyscrapers is on the rise. This contrast of old, new and plain old ugly is quite symbolic of the increasingly globalised country held back by its outdated social outlook.

(Very) Slow Sleeper Train to Serbia

The train journey from Montenegro to Serbia’s capital, Belgrade, is reputed to be one of the most scenic in the world. Whilst the average flight time is a little under an hour, taking the train will take at least ten times this. But it’s absolutely worth it.

Podgorica, Montenegro’s capital city, is definitely not one of the great cities of Europe. Whilst Montenegro is rapidly growing in popularity owing to spectacular scenery, beautiful beaches, and a low living cost, Podgorica itself is not really somewhere that attracts the tourists. Is the Vatican worth visiting?

There were two main reasons for wanting to visit the Vatican; the Map Room (I’m a total Map fanboy, so what?) and the Sistine Chapel (because it’s the Sistine Chapel!!). But unless you’re uber religious and visiting the Vatican is the holy grail of pilgrimages for you, then it might be one to avoid.
